RJHS News Week 6

Parents and Guardians,

\r\n
  • It is already the 6th week of school!  \r\n
  • Picture day is tomorrow!  Please read below for more information about pictures.\r\n
  • Progress Reports for the 1st grading quarter were mailed out last week, so hopefully you have received yours by now.  \r\n
  • The last day of the 1st grading quarter is October 13th, so there is still time for students to improve grades before then!  \r\n
  • This week the Student Council has picked a "Hawaiian" theme for the home games (Volleyball plays at home on Wednesday and Football plays at home on Thursday)!  Students attending these games should sit in the student section, wearing a Hawaiian themed shirt!  \r\n
  • 8th graders will have vision/hearing screening through their Science class this Wednesday/Thursday.  \r\n
  • All 9th grade students should be reading the independent novel that they chose the first week of school in English everyday.  They must be finished reading and have presented their book analysis assignments on Flipgrid by October 8th.  Flipgrid codes have been or will be provided through each individual ninth grade English teacher.  If you have any questions, please email your child's 9th grade English teacher.\r\n
  • Congratulations to the September student of the month, 8th grader Taylor Roach, and the September employee of the month, Assistant Principal Mrs. Statham!\r\n
\r\n

Whirlwind Theatre performs a play called "A Simpler Time" by Jonathan Dorf at The Center's Black Box this Friday & Saturday, September 24th & 25th.  The play starts at 7 pm each evening, is free for students, and costs $5 for parents at the door.  If you have any questions, please email dustin.jackson@rsdk12.net.

\r\n

Auditions for All Region choir have been shifted to a virtual format. Students will record their audition in their choir class and after school October 4-7 from 3:15-5:00 (if able). If you are interested in having your student record after school, please email Mrs. Brockinton the day and time. Katy.brockinton@rsdk12.net.

\r\n

RJHS Fall Picture Day is TOMORROW, Monday, September 20th.  Students should have taken home information about how to order pictures as well as a reminder. Parents/Guardians, please ask for this information from your child(ren).  Pictures will be taken during English class tomorrow.  The easiest way for parents/guardians to order pictures is to go online to mylifetouch.com and order with your student ID or the Picture Day ID: eVtBHTD9C, but students can also bring the picture form and money with them to school tomorrow and order that way. All students and staff will have pictures made tomorrow even if they don't want to order pictures. The pictures will appear in the yearbook.  If you have any questions, please email marci.burnett@rsdk12.net.\r\n

\r\n

The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is open to all parents/guardians.  They meet at noon during the first Monday of each month.  Right now these meetings are being held via zoom.  The next meeting is Monday, October 4th.  Please email PTO President Gina Skelton at gskelton@skeltonlaw.legal or PTO Secretary Tonia Ouzts at tsouzts@hotmail.com if you would like to get a zoom invite to the meeting.  If you have not already, consider becoming a PTO member.  The membership form was a part of the forms packet from the beginning of the year.

\r\n

**The main way that parents can stay involved in their child's education is to stay informed about their grades!  HAC ("Home Access Center" or "eSchool") will continue to be our primary way to communicate with parents and students regarding grades.  NEW:  Parents can expect updated grades in each class on HAC each Wednesday! (Checking your child's Google Classroom summary will typically not give you an accurate portrayal of your child's current progress in each class.)  You should have received log in information in the mail this past week so that you can set up your account, allowing you to access your child's grades.  If you, as a parent, did not receive this information or have questions about getting set up in the system, please direct any questions you may have about logging into the system to Ms. Hamilton by emailing nichole.hamilton@rsdk12.net.  \r\n

\r\n

**RSD has selected GoGuardian services to help our students stay safer and more scholarly online.  RJHS teachers work with students during class time to help teach them digital responsibility and safety.  RSD expects students to use their school-managed Google accounts and school-managed devices for educational purposes within the boundaries of our district.  When a student is off campus, parents share the responsibility for supervising internet access and usage.  We encourage parents/guardians to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage with your child(ren), and reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety with him or her.  IMPORTANT:  parents logging in to GoGuardian must use the email address that they provided to the school.  Here are some links you can use to help you take advantage of the features GoGuardian has:\r\n
