RJHS News Week 7

Parents and Guardians,

\r\n

This year is already flying by...fall has begun and it is now the 7th week of school!  The last day of the 1st grading quarter is approaching quickly...Wednesday, October 13th.  Please encourage your child(ren) to turn in all missing work and get grades pulled up, if needed, before then!\r\n

\r\n

New Information:\r\n

\r\n
  • Lady Cyclones Golf made it to 5A State and will compete at Glenwood on Sunday & Monday (September 26 & 27).  Two of our RJHS students qualified for state:  Chloie McSpadden and Macy Cooper!\r\n
  • Cyclone Softball is having a Cyclone Skills Camp for girls in Pre-K thru 8th grade on October 16th. Please email Coach Mullen (andrea.mullen@rsdk12.net) or Coach Edwards(robert.edwards@rsdk12.net) for more information.  A flyer can be found on the softball Facebook(@CycloneSoftball), or Instagram (cyclone_softball) pages. \r\n
  • There will be a softball booster club meeting on September 28th in the Crimson Room at the High School. The start time will be at 6:00 pm and all softball parents are invited to attend.  If you have any questions, please email Coach Mullen or Coach Edwards (emails listed above).\r\n
  • Starting Friday (Oct. 1), RJHS Cheer will be collecting socks for local foster children. There will be a box placed in every classroom. The advisory class with the most packages of socks donated will win a prize. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Riley at bri.riley@rsdk12.net.\r\n
  • FCCLA is also collecting NEW socks for Socktober. Donated socks will be gifted to foster children in our community through Joseph's House. All are welcome to purchase new socks and bring them to Mrs. Mitchell's room (305) from now until the end of October.  If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Mitchell at teri.mitchell@rsdk12.net. \r\n
\r\n

Repeated Reminders:

\r\n
  • All 9th-grade students should be reading the independent novel that they chose the first week of school in English every day.  They must be finished reading and have presented their book analysis assignments on Flipgrid by October 8th.  Flipgrid codes have been or will be provided through each individual ninth-grade English teacher.  If you have any questions, please email your child's 9th grade English teacher.\r\n
  • Auditions for the All-Region choir have been shifted to a virtual format. Students will record their audition in their choir class and after school October 4-7 from 3:15-5:00 (if able). If you are interested in having your student record after school, please email Mrs. Brockinton the day and time. Katy.brockinton@rsdk12.net.\r\n
  • The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is open to all parents/guardians.  They meet at noon during the first Monday of each month.  Right now these meetings are being held via zoom.  The next meeting is Monday, October 4th.  Please email PTO President Gina Skelton at gskelton@skeltonlaw.legal or PTO Secretary Tonia Ouzts at tsouzts@hotmail.com if you would like to get a zoom invite to the meeting.  If you have not already, consider becoming a PTO member.  The membership form was a part of the forms packet from the beginning of the year.\r\n
  • **The main way that parents can stay involved in their child's education is to stay informed about their grades!  HAC ("Home Access Center" or "eSchool") will continue to be our primary way to communicate with parents and students regarding grades.  NEW:  Parents can expect updated grades in each class on HAC each Wednesday! (Checking your child's Google Classroom summary will typically not give you an accurate portrayal of your child's current progress in each class.)  You should have received login information in the mail this past week so that you can set up your account, allowing you to access your child's grades.  If you, as a parent, did not receive this information or have questions about getting set up in the system, please direct any questions you may have about logging into the system to Ms. Hamilton by emailing nichole.hamilton@rsdk12.net.  \r\n
  • **RSD has selected GoGuardian services to help our students stay safer and more scholarly online.  RJHS teachers work with students during class time to help teach them digital responsibility and safety.  RSD expects students to use their school-managed Google accounts and school-managed devices for educational purposes within the boundaries of our district.  When a student is off-campus, parents share the responsibility for supervising internet access and usage.  We encourage parents/guardians to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage with your child(ren), and reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety with him or her.  IMPORTANT:  parents logging in to GoGuardian must use the email address that they provided to the school.  Here are some links you can use to help you take advantage of the features GoGuardian has:\r\n
